Sometimes I’ve witnessed to individuals online by countering unscriptural comments posted on Facebook and in response to YouTube videos. One person wrote back to me claiming, “God doesn’t speak to men. Any man that tells you he hears God’s words is either a liar or delusional.” “God doesn’t speak to men?” What about Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Joshua, David, and all the other prophets? Did He suddenly become mute? On the other hand, there are ministers and religious organizations claiming to be God’s mouthpiece but really aren’t. Three pastors met privately one day to share their major weaknesses and to pray for one another. The first pastor confessed he had a serious lust problem and many times found himself in compromising situations.  The second pastor, encouraged by this display of candor, admitted that he had stolen money from the church and needed help in managing his finances.  The third pastor then said, “My weakness is gossip…and I can hardly wait to get out of here!” While the above story is meant to be humorous, it’s unfortunate some ministers don’t tame their tongues. Do you sometimes feel your prayers aren’t going beyond the ceiling?   Maybe you’re tempted to think God isn’t hearing them at all.   If that’s the case, then let me share a simple truth that can help transform your prayer life. I’ve heard Christians talk about “bombarding” or “storming” the gates of heaven when praying.   Yet the gates of heaven aren’t closed at all to those who know the Lord.   Ephesians 2:6 says God has “raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”   Spiritually speaking, you already have a position of authority in heaven. Before committng my life to the Lord in 1991, I worked primarily as a nightclub disc jockey.   Bar owners were usually difficult people to work for.   The first five clubs that hired me let me go after a short period of time, mostly for not talking enough.   I felt that club DJs should simply shut up and play the music. At a men’s prayer breakfast I attended earlier this year, one of the other men asked me if it was okay for a Christian to bow to another person during a martial arts contest.   My reply was that it’s permissible if done as a form of respect and wouldn’t involve bowing the knee.   We are to honor men but not give them reverence that solely belongs to God alone. It’s amazing how heresy hunters will fault-find the silliest little things. A few months ago while John Crowder was speaking at a conference in England, a group stood outside protesting various things he has said and done. One thing they didn’t like was John encouraging people to talk to animals. The protesters apparently forgot about Balaam and his donkey in Numbers 22. In verse 30 of that chapter, the donkey talked back. Scandalous! One could assume the animals in the Garden of Eden talked before the fall of man. After all, Eve conversed with the serpent in Genesis 3. Some people might also think of birds that talk today like parrots and mynas. But these creatures simply mimic words taught to them.  There are animals in heaven. Some people believe they will see their deceased pets there.
