Go and Grow in Your Gifts

As I began seeking the Lord on what to share for the first blog article of 2012, I immediately recalled a vision I had two weeks ago. During a Sunday morning church service, a picture flashed through my mind of a Fisher-Price Corn Popper, a toy some of you might have played with as a kid. The interpretation of this vision is that many people have colorful gifts that will remain dormant until they start moving. Then those gifts will “pop.”

Look at 2 Timothy 1:6-7…

“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Many believers quote verse 7 by itself. But often truths in Scripture are revealed only when we read particular verses together. Keep in mind that the chapter and verse numbers in the Bible were not part of the original Hebrew and Greek texts but added by translators to help God’s people find specific passages.

One reason many Christians are shy and fearful is because they are not using all the natural and spiritual gifts God has put into them. Everybody has talents that can be used to minister to others whether you’re a preacher, a businessman, a housewife, or a student. So if you have been negligent in that area, start the New Year off right by making a decision to go and then you will grow.

"His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things.  Enter into the joy of your lord.’" – Matthew 25:21
