Hang On to the Life Preserver

During a recent visit to Niagara Falls, I remembered a scene from the 1980 movie “Superman II.” Clark Kent and Lois Lane were on assignment in Niagara Falls. Lois noticed Clark disappeared while Superman saved a boy from plunging into the water. She then intentionally fell into a river to see if Clark would turn into Superman. Clark saved Lois without exposing himself by using his X-ray vision to cut off a tree branch. He then instructed Lois to grab onto the branch. That helped her swim over to the shore.

If you fell into a body of water and couldn’t swim, you would eventually drown. However, your life could be saved if someone threw a life preserver at you. You would want to hold onto it until you swam to shore or someone pulled you out of the water.

Many sinners unknowingly are headed toward the lake of fire. There is only One way for them to be rescued and avoid eternal damnation. That’s by reaching for the Ultimate Life Preserver. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Jesus also said in Matthew 24:13, “But he who endures to the end shall be saved.” Jesus won’t push us off the life preserver, but we can choose to let go. The world system is like a raging river that will pull us away from the things of God if we don’t abide in Him. I did that after initially asking the Lord into my heart at 17. Fortunately, I reached out to Him ten years later and haven’t let go since.

Don’t let go of the Life Preserver. Hang on to Jesus!

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” - John 15:5
