Election Rejection

Before learning about the results of Tuesday’s midterm election, I read Kenneth & Gloria Copeland’s devotional “From Faith to Faith.” That day’s reading “It Only Takes a Few” was timely. Brother Copeland pointed out, “If the devil’s power resting on a man [referring to Adolf Hitler] can change a nation for the worse, you can be sure that a group of men and women with God’s power resting on them can change a nation for the better.” Christians can make a different in their country if more of them were to pray instead of complain. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

It would also help if every God-fearing American were to go to the polls and vote Biblically during every election. I wasn’t pleased with the Democrats flipping the U. S. House and Senate. Then again, I wasn’t too surprised. In recent years, the political party opposing the President often makes gains in the midterms.

One thing that’s disturbing is the margin of victory by some of these politicians. Despite facing immigration fraud charges, Somalia-born Ilhan Omar of Minnesota maintained her congressional seat by winning over 70% of the vote! Although the number of Muslims in the Twin Cities area had increased, I still have doubts Omar is that popular there. I suspect voter fraud occurred in Minnesota and other places.

President Donald Trump and Vice President J. D. Vance cited rising gas prices connected with the war in Iran as the real reason Republicans lost control of the Congress. That may have been a factor, but I believe there’s another reason: voter apathy. According to the Washington Examiner, only 17% of voters in this year’s election were evangelical Christians, down from 23% two years ago. With early voting becoming a more popular option, there’s no excuse for any believer to skip an election. James 4:17 says, “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

Bad outcomes are often the result of not making a decision. That’s especially true concerning salvation. No one can remain on the fence for eternity.

“He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.” - Matthew 12:30
