It’s important to study the Bible for yourself and not blindly accept everything a minister says from the pulpit. Wrong religious traditions have developed over the years due to people not rightly dividing the word of truth. For example, Catholics believe Peter was the first pope because of what Jesus said in Matthew 16:18… “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” The name Peter comes from the Greek word petros meaning “rock.” Because the next verse refer to Jesus giving “…the keys of the kingdom of heaven” , some people believe “St. Peter” is at the Pearly Gates deciding who gets in and who doesn’t. This morning I went street evangelizing in Charleston, South Carolina and saw ten people give their lives to Jesus. At the beginning of this outing, I had a strange encounter. I offered a tract to a man who walked past me claiming I gave him one yesterday. (That was impossible - I stayed indoors because it rained all day.) I didn’t contest his claim and talked to other people in the area. A few minutes later, this man came back to me complaining the tract I had supposedly given him was “offensive” because it was geared towards children. I replied by pointing out what Jesus said in Matthew 18:3… “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” This man responded by quoting something from the Greek New Testament. I avoided getting sidetracked and asked if he ever made Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. He had no idea what I was talking about! I quoted Romans 10:9 and this man said that verse...

Let this be a warning to read the fine print of an airline's baggage policy the next time you fly. Yesterday morning when I checked in at Tampa International Airport for my flight to Charlotte, an AirTran employee weighed my large suitcase and the scale read 54.5 pounds. I found it strange that my suitcase suddenly gained weight on my way to the airport. At the missionary house I stayed at, their scale had my suitcase at 50 pounds. After putting on an extra jacket and my heavier pair of shoes plus moving other items into my carry-on bag, the AirTran employee measured my suitcase and told me it was “too big.” I was shocked that I suddenly had to pay a $49 “oversized bag” fee. That same suitcase had never incurred such charges on previous AirTran flights. I didn’t know a policy change regarding baggage dimensions went into effect last month. When I asked the AirTran employee to waive the fee, she refused and claimed the $49 would otherwise be taken out of her paycheck. ...

Last night I watched the second half of Super Bowl XLIV on TV. Originally I wasn’t interested in viewing it at all because the Minnesota Vikings (my favorite team) just missed advancing to the big game. But I changed my mind partially because I wanted to watch the Tim Tebow commercials that promoted a pro-life message. I didn’t see the commercials live because they aired during the pregame show and the first quarter. However, another memorable commercial came on near the end of the game. It was an Audi ad featured the “Green Police” (with background music by Cheap Trick which parodies their old song “Dream Police”). This ad could be a sign of things to come. Laws are constantly being passed to appease environmentalists. Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet but not the Son of God. When I encounter a Muslim while street evangellizing, I’ll first ask him if he agrees that a true prophet of God doesn’t lie. When the Muslim says, “yes,” then I mention that Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6) I also point out that Jesus called Himself the Son of God in John 3:16; “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” Muslims seek to undermine the credibility of the Bible by calling sections of it “corrupt” that conflict with their religious book, the Koran, which was written over 500 years after the New Testament. Two days ago I stopped at Burger King for lunch. It wasn’t until after leaving the restaurant I noticed my water cup had the phrase "Be Good to Mother Earth" stamped on it. My first thought was, “Since when did this planet birth ‘little Earths’"? I posted my reaction on Facebook and received some interesting feedback from my friends. One of them wrote, “The Church of England is getting gripped by this Save the Planet stuff, pray they will concentrate more on saving souls!” Another friend wrote, “Psalm 50:10 says for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. So, who's the real burger KING?” Years ago at a Toastmasters meeting, I heard one speaker urging us to “love your mother” (referring to the earth). This past week I’ve been staying at a friend’s place in rural Florida to fast and pray. Originally I figured I wouldn't be doing any witnessing here. God ended up bringing me people to witness to. On Friday afternoon, I was sitting outside reading a Lou Engle book when a car pulled up. Two women emerged holding Bibles. When one of them asked if I wanted to do a “Bible study” with them, I knew they were Jehovah’s Witnesses. Before I continued talking to the women, I quickly went inside to grab my Bible. Then I took authority in the spiritual realm and asked the Holy Spirit to pour out His presence upon the grounds. Immediately I asked the Jehovah’s Witnesses where they would spend eternity when their lives ended. As I expected, one of the women replied “on the earth” and tried to use John 17:3 to back up her belief. In response, I showed them John chapter 3 verses 3, 7, and 16-17 in my Bible.
