Christians, Come Out of the Closet!
The mainstream media makes a big fuss when a celebrity “comes out” as gay or transgender. A few years ago, actor Zach Quinto publicly proclaimed he was a homosexual. That inspired one national TV news anchorman to do the same while reporting the story. After Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner identified as a different gender, he was awarded the Arthur Ashe Courage Award by ESPN.
If homosexuals and transgender people can openly display behaviors that the Bible calls shameful (Romans 1:27), then believers should unashamedly proclaim their allegiance to the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible has many verses regarding that…
“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” - Mark 8:38
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” - Romans 1:16
“according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.” - Philippians 1:20
“So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God.” - 2 Timothy 1:8
This Thursday is “Not Ashamed of Jesus Day.” Praise God if this inspires more Christians to share the Good News with others. However, we shouldn’t need a special day to obey the Great Commission. 2 Corinthians 6:2 (NLT) says, “Indeed, the ‘right time’ is now. Today is the day of salvation.”
It’s time for more believers to come out of their prayer closets and be doers of God’s word. Johnny Cash once said, “Being a Christian isn’t for sissies. It takes a real man to live for God - a lot more man than to live for the devil.” Real courage is standing for righteousness and telling people the truth in love.
“The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere.” - 1 Thessalonians 1:8 (NIV)
