Not Good - A Response to the ICE Shooting in Minneapolis

I’m a traveling missionary who has lived in Minnesota much of my life. I grew up in Moorhead, but later moved to Minneapolis to pursue a music career. Eventually, I become a Christian, and spent time working for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association when it was based in Minneapolis. Now for almost three decades, I’ve travelled around the country, but often make seasonal returns to Minnesota when the weather is warmer. I don’t care for the cold winters nor the political climate there.

This past Wednesday, an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agent named Jonathan Ross shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Good. It’s a tragedy that could’ve been avoided like Daunte Wright’s death five years ago. If Good had cooperated and obeyed law enforcement orders, she would be alive today. Instead, she and her lesbian partner spent time taunting ICE officials. Videos show Good attempted to run over an ICE agent with her vehicle and paid the ultimate price.


Good had been part of a left-leaning “ICE Watch” group. A Fox News report listed the following information regarding this group:

  • Aims to monitor, track, interfere and oppose ongoing federal immigration enforcement operations
  • present in multiple sanctuary cities across the country
  • linked to multiple confrontations with federal agents throughout the country
  • numerous instances of activists ramming agents with their cars

Romans chapter 13 warns of the consequences of resisting authority:


1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 

2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; 

4 for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 

5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake.


Nowadays, guns are used instead of swords. Sometimes I’ve ministered to former military personnel who thought they had sinned because they killed someone in combat. It is not a sin for a soldier or law-enforcement official to use a weapon to defend themselves.


It’s sad how Democrats have prejudged Ross by labeling him a murderer. Whatever happened to “innocent until proven guilty?” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (who recently canceled his reelection plans due to fraud charges) previously compared ICE agents with the Gestapo. Now he has talked about deploying the National Guard because “we do not need any further help from the federal government.” I used to be in the Guard and thankful I didn’t serve under Walz’ watch.


The profanity-laced response from Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey was even more disturbing. He dismissed the Department of Homeland Security statement that Good weaponized her car to run over an ICE agent. Frey told ICE to “get the **** out of Minneapolis!” I wish Frey would get out of Minneapolis. He and Governor Walz allowed the city to be burned and looted during the George Floyd riots six years ago. For more revealing details about that, I recommend watching “The Fall of Minneapolis."


ICE agents are risking their lives to keep our country safe from individuals who shouldn’t be in this country. Ross experienced injuries from an incident last June with another person resisting arrest. Some have complained about ICE agents deporting illegal aliens who had been in America for decades and lived as model citizens. These folks had plenty of time to get a green card or at least a visa to remain in his country legally. 


Once again, there are consequences when you resist authority. Lucifer led one-third of the angelic host in a rebellion against God, and got kicked out of heaven. Now these fallen angels are spreading evil through men not submitted to the lordship of Jesus Christ, 1 Samuel 15:23 says, “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft…” 


It’s reported that Jonathan Ross is a veteran and professing Christian. Even if some ICE agents are not saved, they are still God’s servants. They deserve our respect and need our prayers.

Looking Back @ the Toronto Blessing

With friends I met in 1996 Twenty-five years ago today, a supernatural move of God began at a church near the Toronto airport. When guest speaker Randy Clark prayed over congregation members that night, they started shaking, hollering, and doing other things religious folk would consider disruptive. However, there were changed lives as a result of what became known as “The Toronto Blessing” (or “The Father’s Blessing” as Pastor John Arnott prefers calling it). Soon people from all over the world flocked to Toronto Airport Vineyard to experience a fresh touch from God. Toking the Ghost Revisited

Back in February 2007, a fellow missionary I was traveling with started talking about “smoking the weed from heaven.”   He would pretend to have a joint of marijuana between his fingers and have “smoke breaks with Jesus.”   He also encouraged other believers to take “hits.”   I was a bit uncomfortable with this idea but didn't contest it.
