The End-Time Harvest

In his book “The Coming Revival”, Rodney Howard-Browne wrote, “If you're on fire for God and you’re full of the Holy Spirit, you can take the power of God wherever you go. But too many Christians are allowing the influence of the world to stop them or pull them down.” I’ve seen believers focus on negative things as a result of watching the news for hours or looking for the latest heresies spreading within the church. Recently a Facebook friend posted this on her page:

“A worldwide revival is not prophesied in scripture. This is a NAR/WOF false teaching. The Bible teaches there will be apostasy—a great falling away. Believe the Bible!”

NAR refers to the New Apostolic Reformation, a term used by the late Peter Wagner to describe a movement some have called “dominion theology.” That is a belief Christians will gradually take over all aspects of society. Although Jesus said in Luke 19:13 (KJV), Occupy till I come, the Bible also mentions the antichrist ruling the world during the tribulation period.

WOF refers to Word of Faith, a stream of ministry I identify with. I was discipled in a WOF church that included teachings on leading people to salvation. Word of Faith preachers receives criticism mainly due to misunderstandings by religious folk who misinterpret Scripture. But even the Apostle Paul could be labeled a Word of Faith preacher (see Romans 10:8).

Yes, I agree the Bible warns of apostasy in the last days. We are certainly seeing that with some denominations embracing perverted lifestyles as normal. However, I believe in a worldwide revival occurring during these last days. More people are coming to Christ than ever before. This can be verified with Scripture. Look at Joel chapter 2:

28 “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.

29  And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

30  “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke.

31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.

32  And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares in Matthew 13 mentions a large end-time harvest of souls (as well as several apostates):

24“The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field;

25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way.

26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared.

27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’

28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’

29 But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”

Jesus also talked about a time when we would do greater works than Him (John 14:12), because of the former and latter rains coming together (Joel 2:23). Ministers like Mario Murillo who conduct tent meetings are seeing multitudes coming to Christ and receiving miracles.

Just complaining about apostasy doesn’t fulfill the Great Commission. One man told me, “The Bible says very few will make it to heaven.” More people will make it to heaven if more Christians share the gospel with the lost.

“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” - Romans 10:14
